What We Wear Closest to the Skin
Lingerie occupies a particular place in a wardrobe.
It is clothing, but it is also the clothing that spends the most time against our skin.
We think carefully about how a bra fits, how lace feels, whether something supports or moves with the body. Yet the things surrounding lingerie — how we wash it, what remains in the fibres, what we use on the skin beneath it — rarely receive the same attention.
Perhaps they should.
Close to the skin
There is an intimacy to lingerie that has very little to do with whether anyone else sees it.
For hours at a time, fabric sits directly against the body. It moves with us, absorbs perspiration and body oils, and is eventually washed, dried and worn again.
That makes caring for lingerie about more than keeping something beautiful for longer.
Delicate lace, silk, tulle and elastic respond differently to water, heat and detergent. How we wash them can affect their softness, shape and elasticity — the very qualities that made us choose them in the first place.
Not because beautiful lingerie should be treated as something too precious to wear.
Quite the opposite.
It should be worn.
Washed.
And worn again.
What lies beneath
Thinking about lingerie care led me somewhere very familiar.
To the skin beneath it.
Long before Intensify Me Boutique, my world was biochemistry and consumer care. I spent almost twenty years working in an industry where ingredients, formulations and the way products interact with the body were part of everyday conversations.
Perhaps that's why I find the space between lingerie and skin particularly interesting.
We have become increasingly thoughtful about the products we use on our faces, our hair and our bodies. We read ingredient lists. We consider formulations. We ask whether something is appropriate for our skin.
The intimate area deserves the same consideration — although not necessarily more products.
The body already knows how to do a great deal for itself.
Good intimate care is therefore not about masking, perfuming or correcting the body. It is about choosing thoughtfully when we do use something, particularly on sensitive external skin.
A little science behind the care
Words such as natural, gentle and clean appear everywhere in personal care. They can be appealing, but they don't tell us everything about how a formulation behaves.
Natural does not automatically mean gentler. Synthetic does not automatically mean harsh.
What matters is the formulation as a whole: the ingredients used, their concentrations, the pH of a product intended for skin, and how those ingredients work together.
The same principle applies, differently, to lingerie care.
A detergent needs to clean — removing perspiration, body oils and stains — while being appropriate for delicate fibres. And because lingerie returns directly to our skin after every wash, what we use to care for it is worth considering too.
This isn't about making an everyday ritual complicated.
It is simply about paying attention.
Where the two meet
That intersection between fabric and skin is what led me to introduce Intimate Care at Intensify Me Boutique.
I wanted to start small, with two products from Bondi Wash that each address one side of that relationship.

Different formulations. Different purposes.
But they belong together for a reason.
For what you wear. And what lies beneath.
A quieter kind of care
I don't think we need another elaborate routine.
And I certainly don't think beautiful lingerie should spend its life in a drawer because we're afraid of washing it.
Care can be much simpler than that.
Choose thoughtfully.
Wear often.
Wash gently.
And give a little consideration to the things that accompany us most intimately through everyday life.
Because what we wear is only part of the story.
