Kimono – Botanica

Inspired by the quiet beauty and extraordinary diversity of nature, the Botanica Kimono celebrates the delicate relationship between plants, colour and silk.

Leaves and flowers carry their own distinctive shapes, textures and markings, often revealing details that go unnoticed in everyday life. It is this natural richness, and the possibility of preserving its fleeting impressions, that gives Camila Machado's creation its character.

Crafted from pure silk, the kimono brings together four botanical elements: guava leaves, macela flowers, avocado leaves and eucalyptus. Through botanical printing, the plants leave their own traces on the fabric, creating an organic composition in which each leaf and flower becomes part of the artwork.

The process incorporates ferrous sulphate as a mordant and colour modifier, influencing how the botanical impressions develop on the silk. The interaction between plants, fabric and technique creates subtle variations in colour and form, making each piece impossible to reproduce in exactly the same way.

Without additional embroidery, the botanical impressions become the central expression of the design. The long, fluid silhouette allows their delicate patterns to unfold with movement, while the softness of silk brings a natural elegance to the way the kimono feels and falls.
